For Students
Knowing Science is implementing its collaborative learning strategy using online assessments. Students are very familiar with all sorts of digital devices from gaming, to making videos, to editing photos. These skills can easily be applied to delivering assessments. The Knowing Science Collaborative Learning strategy makes full use of digital tools to enhance the student learning experience, and supports the teacher by delivering and grading tests.

The assessment starts with a scenario which introduces the theme of the investigation. The scenario engages students because it relates to everyday experiences from the point of view of an elementary student. The rest of the assessment develops around the scenario almost as a story.

Colorful and simple drawings, videos, and grade level reading materials are the main source of information that supports the student during the investigation.

Each question builds on the previous ones by exploring each aspect of the investigation and by adding details to the whole picture.

Not each question is graded. Some questions are used to guide the student’s investigation or to collect data or notes. Each observation, measurement, plot, or drawing can be stored in the assessment. All the data are accessible to the teacher and the students.
